The vision
Cosomoto was started with one thing in mind: the ultimate pursuit of two wheeled performance. If you set out to build the best - ever lightweight racing motorcycle, how would you do it?
The story
Cosomoto was founded by Chris Cosentino, a passionate mechanical engineer with a deep love for motorcycles and racing. Combining his professional expertise with his personal passion, 25 years ago Chris embarked on an ambitious project to create a unique racing motorcycle that pushes the boundaries of design and performance.
The journey began with the desire to build a modern interpretation of the legendary Ducati Supermono—a single-cylinder racing motorcycle celebrated for its lightweight design and exceptional handling. Chris set out to design and build a custom motorcycle from the ground up, focusing on innovation, precision engineering, and superior performance.
Over 25 years of dedicated work, Chris engineered a bespoke steel trellis frame and cast magnesium swingarm, utilizing the latest software for design and finite element analysis for structural optimization. The frame components were laser-cut and meticulously TIG-welded to achieve both strength and weight reduction.
For the powerplant, Chris first built a single based on a Ducati 999R cylinder head. Demonstrating remarkable engineering prowess, he transformed the twin-cylinder engine into a race-winning single-cylinder unit. This involved intricate modifications, including custom machining of the crankshaft, altering the oil passages, and designing a new counterbalance system to maintain engine smoothness.
Following the success of the 999R prototype, he moved forward with a new design based on the 1199 cylinder head and a fully custom lower end, including CNC engine cases, crankshaft, counter balancer, etc.
The result of this labor of love was the original Hypermono—a racing motorcycle that weighs just 120kg (265 lbs) and delivers outstanding performance on the track. The original custom-engined Hypermono is not only a testament to Chris's engineering skill but also a reflection of Cosomoto's commitment to innovation, quality, and the relentless pursuit of perfection.
With the recent release of Ducati's new Superquadro Mono engine, Cosomoto is excited to expand its offerings. Now, we can offer complete Hypermono Race Bikes using all the cutting edge GP components of the original Hypermono, but with Ducati’s new, 80+ hp engine and electronics for reliability and service.
We’re also excited to offer Hypermono Kits, allowing motorcycle enthusiasts to build their own street-legal versions of the Hypermono. The Hypermono Kits allow you to create your own version of the Hypermono with a significant number of donor parts from the Ducati Hypermotard 698, allowing you to create a personalized high-performance machine that embodies your own spirit of innovation and excellence.
At Cosomoto, we are dedicated to redefining what's possible in motorcycle engineering. Our mission is to deliver exceptional motorcycles that offer unparalleled performance and a unique riding experience. We invite you to join us on this exciting journey and become a part of the Cosomoto story.
